Sunrise

In this very low light morning I tried to increase depth of field by closing down the aperture. The depth did not increase much due to the great difference between foreground and background and low light. ISO increase did improve the depth but began to wash-out the beautiful colors of the light est sky.Focusing in between left everything muddled.

Music class

While nothing in the photo was holding still while I changed aperture setting, I was able to blur my background with an f5 1/15. The histogram is more to the dark side, but when I opened the aperture the instructor's hand looked too washed-out as did the shine on her violin.

Then played around.. =)

Playing with Aperatures - Tony

Couldn't quite get the histogram perfect, mostly high clipped. I think some Exp Comp changes might have been a solution.

Nisqually II - Dave

Not sure if the composition is better or worse on this one with the blocks in front. 50D, f/11, 1/400, ISO 160, focal length 35 mm.

Nisqually - Dave

Took this at about 10:00AM yesterday Canon 50D, f/10, 1/320, ISO 160, focal length 35 mm. Histogram was left of center but gave the look I was going for.

Deana - Learning beyond the auto mode

This is not a favorite photo, but did learn a lot about the f/stop (which is 8 for this photo) and the ISO (3200). Focusing my learning on the F/stop and ISO gave me an average result with the exposure of 1/40th. The histogram was more left, then centered but this was a better result with the time of day this was taken. I liked the view from the Law Enforcement Memorial - the reflection and the lights of Olympia. I had wanted more of Capital Lake, however the railing from above did not allow for that. Should have walked down the hill for more desirable picture. I found myself manipulating the functions vs moving for the better picture. The focal length is 80 MM.

Country Turn Around

Played with the aperature. This picture was taken with several different aperatures, which were interesting. This photo was at f/4.2, 1/160 shutter at 400 ISO. While the histogram is a little left, it is still fairly centered, with no spikes. I would like to see a little more texture on the trees and the leaves.
I know the mission of this particular class was frustration and I was definitely there! I worked aperatures with a flower and a candle. Found a steady hand or tripod would have been more effective.

Bouy - Matt

f/5.6, 1/250 sec, ISO-100, 300mm

The histogram was right in the middle for this photo.

Dusk - Jason

I took this shot at Priest Point Park just after sunset. I was about ready to leave when for just a few minutes the sky turned these amazing colors of pink, purple and blue. I'm so glad that didn't give up on the day. The histogram was mostly on the right with no highlight clipping. I really like the color, the soft wispy cloud formation and the reflected colors in the water. I shot this on a tripod with aperture priority set to f/8.

Lu - Hawk

I was shooting through an open window into the wetland behind our house to get raindrops dripping off of the branches (trying lots of f/stops) when the hawk stopped by. I blurred the foreground enough to see the hawk through the branches in front, but I don't think I got as  much detail on him as I could have he had stuck around longer. I also lost some detail on the top of the branch and got those darn light circles - raindrops?

Sculpture - Matt

f/5.6, 1/25, ISO-100
I took a bunch of shots of this with every Aperture setting and ISO setting. This was the best. It was hard to get the Histogram in the middle, there was either clipping on the left or on the right.. This shot was leaning more toward the dark side of the histogram.

Melissa- "January Blossoms"

Aperture mode f/5 with ISO 400.
I liked the focus on the flowers and water droplets, and the cloudiness of the back and foreground.
The histogram came out dark no matter what ISO I was using. I wish the photo were brighter.

Jessica - Backlighting

This was my attempt at backlighting of this bush. WB is set on Cloudy which made it a little warmer than the daylight setting. I like the slight golden tint on the edges of the plant. With regard to changes, I might have changed my position and had the sunniest spot closer to a point where the thirds lines intersect.

Backlight

All I really remember about this one is the rock in my butt!
But I liked it when I reviewed it on my computer.

light direction -

I tried this with a fill flash (I think).
This was the better of the two.

Field Trip

Dick N., "Waiting for Light"

I hung around after the class to capture these shots. With the tide out I managed to get below the grass and shoot upward to get the moon in the photo. I had some trouble with the sky blowing out at times, but when I waited for the sun to come from behind the clouds it provided better lighting for the grass. I grabbed the taillight of the car just as I left the parking lot.

Tony - Chains and Stainless

Played with the custom aeb at
-2 0 +2

I liked the reflection of the stainless and the chains detail, also how the wb setting changed the contrast of the setting.

I probably would change at least one photo so all were from the same position.

American Bittern

Lu - Day Into Night

I chose this photo because I thought the WB setting made it look as if I were shooting the scene in moonlight instead of sunlight. I liked the angles and shadows crisscrossing. I tried this from several different angles and liked this angle the best.
